I'm a little late rsponding on this but thought of this last night instead of sleeping (that could be good or bad!). Anyway, have you thought of ripping the bead from a scrap strip and gluing short pieces on as "sacrificial strips? This way they match the boat, protect the deck and are easily replaceable when they wear significantly. If you have some contrasting cedar you could even make it a feature. Just a thought, now for some sleep.
