You are right, the wire does help in this area. I will tell you that the staples seemed to work fine though. Once stapled, I hung the kayak and was able to true it just fine. There was no problem tweeking to get the balance and fairness. This is not a replacement by all means, but if you have a few kayaks under your belt and am game at a new technique, it is worth trying.
