The panels are 4mm, so with the 1/4 inch staples and the slight angle the staples didn't go through. I stapled from the outside as well. As for the chine near the cockpit "Where the deck is mounted to the sheer panel, I used the brass nails here. I was tempted to staple here as well but using 1/2 staples would of given too much of a bite and a fear of having too much of a bite on the staple to get them out. The staples were pulled out after epoxy and glass with needle nose plyers. My deciding factor was, I like the look of the brass nails after they have been weathered.
