: Hi all,
: I am looking for some feedback on this boat. I am looking at buying it for
: the family to paddle without getting a ca, canoe. (I can hardly say it!)
: ;-) How well did it go together, aesthetics, hours to build, and paddling
: characteristics would be appreciated.

: Thanks,

I built the double as well.
Actually the plans I used were for the triple, published in Woodenboat
magazine. I just left out the middle cockpit and moved the others in
accordingly. I probably spent 150-200 hours on it, but that includes lofting
and cutting panels etc. I think Pygmy says you can build a kit in about 90
hours.

The panels fit together very well. The hull took the right shape without too
much effort. There is a lot of stitching to do with 8 panels for the hull
and 4 for the deck, all 20 feet long, but it is not particularly difficult.

I am very happy with the way the boat handles. I tried a Libra XT last summer
and I felt very at home in it, after paddling the Pygmy. I think the Pygmy
is just as good. It is stable as heck, and it goes where you point it.
I find I don't need the rudder that much anymore, after some practice.
