Material: ss. rings

I'm curious if there are any strong opinions about using a 1 1/2" ss. ring imbedded vertically in the bow as one might use a u-bolt. The reason for considering the ss. ring is that it would sit lower to the deck with less opportunity for fouling lines. u-bolts that have a big enough radius for 1/3-1/2 arc protruding are too large. Anyone see anyproblems with bedding the lower part in the endpour?
