I am doing the same thing with a SS D-Ring I bought at West Marine. I am cutting a slot in the deck. I will "trap" a SS flat washer between the D-ring and the deck to spread out the load. Then just some thickened epoxy to hold it it place. This will be in back of the cockpit as a fair lead to run the tow rope through.
