Today I was to glue the corner braces into the wherry. The front brace (breasthook) and the rear braces (knees) were to be glued with cabosil thickened epoxy.
First I tried to make a dry run and fit the braces. NONE of them fit. My filleting and fiberglass layers made the corners round. I used a rotary disc on my drill to grind the corners back for the 1" off the top. After that all three braces fit fine.
I mixed my epoxy and spread it on the sides like peanut butter on a toast. Clamps worked fine and the whole thing is curing right now.
I also needed to put my spreaders back into the boat. I started with the middle spreader at station 7. The sheer line was out about 1". I hotglued the bottom of the spreader and then used a rope twisting to "clamp" the hull back so that the sides of the spreaders at the sheer line met. I hot glued the whole thing. Then I hot glued stations 3 and 11. Tomorrow I will try to remove the rope hoping that it won't break the hot glue bond. I need to get the rope off because next I will need to glue the rubrails. The rope would be in the way of the rub rail.
