I'm not sure I agree with this. I used a 2" x 2" x 1/8" steel tube for my strong back, mounted at two points, and all riding on casters. No noticable twist or sag. I did it because it's easy to store when it's knocked down, and I can use it for an internal strongback design in the future if I choose.

I know steel is more expensive than wood, but I didn't have to spend bunches of time setting it up and worrying about it warping. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
