Craig,
I would agree with those that suggest you follow the instructions that came with your plans. I have built Redfish and others and have modified strongbacks. After trying different methods on different boats and now designing my own, I find the external strongback is the sturdiest and the easiest method to make adjustments along the way, especially if you use risers with slots to make adjustments. I use a six by six beam on all my boats. It can be used over and over again with no problem. When I have used a two by four, after two boats, it tourqued and warped and had to be discarded. Also with an internal beam, once you have the forms on, it is not so easy to dismantle if you have to take the forms off and adjust. All will have to come off to get at the center one.
