There is, of course, the inexpensive, easy, and very nautical solution: a nice grab knot tied into the rope itself. Use good, high quality line, some of which has an attractive contrasting thread (like black with red thread in it). Not quite as comfortable as a toggle, but for a single, it works great. Instructions for tying the knot are in the Shop Tips/Fitting out at Chesapeake Light Craft (clcboats.com).
