I suppose "puzzling" isn't quite exact; it's the design's uncoupling of the typical connection between roll and yaw, remaining helm-neutral at roll angles beyond 10 degrees. As a well-read but lightly experienced newbie, it seemed this would produce a different feel from the typical kayak, which tracks when level and turns when leaned. Although, come to think of it, Nick does mention in one of his pages that he specifically worked on the ability to steer without heel in his designs also. Regardless, it sounds like the result works well!
