: I started building my first kayak in October 2001 which happens to be the
: "Guillemot" and I am currently in the final stages of stripping
: in the hull. I have not yet started on the recessed cockpit or the combing
: yet but I did do a little bit of fairing on one side of the boat. When I
: ran the block plane over the boat I found that there were a few spots
: where the glue must not have contacted the two strips and it left a small
: gap in between the strips. What is the best way for me to fill these gaps?
: Will I be able to see the areas where I filled in? Somebody please tell me
: no. I want this to be my own little work of art not something that has
: noticeable gaps in it. If things turn out I will post pictures later. I
: think I made things hard for myself by designing a very unique stripping
: pattern. Thanks.
One solution is to mix up epoxy, fine sawdust (from sanding) until thick and filling the gaps. So people just use store bought wood filler. For Larger cracks you can try a thin wedge of wood, but it sounds like this does not apply to you.
Apperently it can be a bit tricky matching colour when filling cracks due to the change when the epoxy is applied. I think there is a fair bit of detail on the topic in Nick's book,
