I used the 1" plastic "d" rings that are available from a variety of places, and then fabricated carbon fiber tabs to hold them. I was going to post pictures to my website but could never get a good clear shot of the finished product.
The tabs could just as easily be made from fiberglas scraps. I created a mold by routing a 5/16 half-round groove down the center of a 3" wide board (about 12" long in my case). Covered the board with saran wrap - laid up several layers of wet fabric, covered with saran wrap, laid a 1/4 dowel into the groove, and clamped another board to create a "sandwich". After the 12" long piece cured, I cut 3/4" pieces off of it, shaped the ends of the tabs, and glued D rings in place where I wanted them with thickened epoxy. Held them in place with grey tape until the thickened epoxy cured.
