I haven't really given this much thought, but standard crab rings or pots are probably way too big (and dangerous) to pack out into open water on the deck of a kayak, so I would either have to build collapsible pots that I could store in a day hatch or better yet Chip's idea of towing them on a trailing raft or innertube. Thanks Chip. So now I'm looking for ideas on building a small lightweight raft to tote the traps and store the crabs. Is there a way I can safely attach a kayak to a two-pontoon style raft (or other) for stabilizing during set-up/retrieval. I realize every connection would have to be quick-release. I have a bit more experience building than I do paddling, but I know that safety comes first.
