I have used this the following for hold downs in inconspicous places.

I picked up some PVC pipe couplings 5/8" dia. Then I cut them lengthwise and in half giving me 4 loops per coupling. Then I glued them in place with thickened epoxy and also ran a strip of fiberglass tape over them and about 1" off of each side onto the underside of the deck.

Quick and cheap, but I don't put them where they could easily be seen.
