: canoe! When I cut the opening for a recessed cockpit on the 14' Auk should
: the cut be plumb to the floor?,... beveled inwards to create a bit of a
: lip?... doesn't matter?.... The recess as I've drawn it will extend from
: the front to the midpoint of the cockpit sides, and then just a tad on the
: rear.

I found that a slight bevel made it easier to fit the strips. I used a strip of packing tape to hold the strips in place along this joint while the glue dried. I am very pleased at the resulting joint. A stationary belt sander was used to shape the ends of the strips.
