: Has anyone put a skin deck on an s&g hull? How would you join the skin to the
: sheer? Just curious.
You could just staple it on the bow and stern ( getting it as tight as possible ), and start in the middle and pull it to one side just a tad... staple it in about a 6" expanse, then go around to the other side and pull it back till it's tight and staple it on that side. Go from the middle towards one end repeating this process ( back and forth ). Then repeat on the other end until it's all down tight, with as few wrinkles as possible. Then to cover the staples, you can add a gunnal strip over the length of both sides and screw it down with bronze screws. You hide the cloth edge and add more support of the skin as well as stiffness to the sides of the boat. That is the way that Putz shows in his book. Hope that helps!
