: Hi Gary
Just double checked the measurements on the yak to see what I had done. I had moved the front cockpit back a little further than I had originally wanted, but it was still adjusted for a slightly lighter paddeler.
From bow to front of the front cockpit measures 69"
From the stern to the back of the back cockpit measures 61"
the cockpits are 33" long and that leaves 44" between them.
with my weight being 190lbs and being in the back, it works out balanced with a person of 185lbs in the front.
The few times that I have had that much weight up front made it a real job to keep it going straight as well as turn where I want too. Once a turn is initiated, you have to work to stop the turn. With my son (60lbs) up front, control is a piece of cake. I only use the rudder when its really windy. With this in mind, I would suggest moving the front cockpit even further back to keep the balance shifted more aft.
It would be interesting to see what others have experienced in balance and control on the double.
Anyway, hope this has helped
Tom
