Rob Macks could probably say better whether a cockpit recess is "traditional" on an Aleut hull (but woodstrip isn't technically traditional either).

If that doesn't matter, I say go for the recess. It makes rolling and boat fit a lot better. Even if you don't roll right now, you (or your wife) might want to someday.

: Finally got around to loading up a picture of the Shooting Star with the hull
