Very beautiful! I´ve showed the picture for the SS I´ve built for my daughter and she approved it and said wellcome to the gang.
I choosed the SS because I thought that she would suit my daughter both in size and performance. I can say now that it was a good choice. My daughter isn´t so experienced paddler yet, but she will soon be in this very talented kayak.
I have placed the bulkhead so that even I can sit in it with my long legs. I´m ca 6"1' and I find the recessed cockpit-rim very comfortable and a good support for my knees when leaning and rolling.
My advice is: Go for the recess! (and place the bulkhead so that you can fit in the cockpit too!!!)
I made a fillup to the bulkhead so my daughter has a good support for her feets. I used Ethafoam and glued a couple of straps around it. In that way she can easily take it out and use it for floating aid or as a cushion on the beach.

So, go for the recess and keep us updated with pictures on the deck.
