:For hatch hold down straps, I use one inch webbing which is pulled put through a slot in the deck. Tp prevent it from coming through I do as you have done with a small loop sewn on the end with a piece of dowel and silicone. It seals well. If the strap does not exert enough downward pressure to seal your hatch, try a double layer of weatherstripping between the hatch and hatch stop. On my boats, I build hatch lips to prevent flush hatches from falling into the boat. The one inch lip has double layers of 1/4 in weatherstripping which seals well. The other thing you could try is to sew another loop in the strap on the underside portion which lays over the deck and place another piece of dowel through that loop. The small dowel applies downward pressure to the hatch when you pull the straps tight. Third option is a piece of wood glued to deck to which the strap crosses over which also applies downward pressure.

I know how the soft padeyes are made ,but I would like to use that look for
: hatch hold downs with 3/4" webbing and clip buckles..
: So far I've tried sliding the looped webbing thru the slot, insert a dowel
: and pull up with a bit of silicone to seal it off. This will be strong
: enough but I doubt it will be water proof..since it doesn't have a real
: flat seal on the underside of the hull.

: Anyone have any ideas how this could be done, without taking the buckles off
: and re-sewing . or is more silicone the answer?

: Thanks for any advice. Terry
