If I was doing this, which I wouldn't, I would use contact cement with the thinner base and clean up, not the water cleanup kind. The thinner base holds much better. Then use a roller to press your strip down. But you had better get each strip layed just right or they will track off line from butting next to your already laid strips. You can lay paper under the aligned strips and pull it out when you have your strip layed in perfect alignment. But that's scary work, for me anyway.
