In Response To: Xylene=Hazardous Air Pollutant (Mark)

: Shawn,

: Xylene is listed as a Hazardous Air Pollutant by the EPA. What this means is
: that it has been shown to cause health problems in some people at some
: exposure level. All I recommend is that when you do a large surface area
: with the epoxy thinned with xylene have pleanty of fresh air.

Mark is right. This stuff is scary and when I do use it I work outside, wear gloves and glasses and cover as much skin as I can. My Xylene label says---it is explosive. It causes nervous and brain damage. It also says, this product contains chemicals that cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm. I only use it to thin dip rubber.

I have never seen epoxy thinned with a solvent, just heated for thinning, but working fast when you do.

John
