i think the reason that some don't respond positively to this approach is that it looks like it takes up a lot of space and aligned table room. and you cannot easily see/appreciate the shape and lines of the yak as you proceed and running your(non-oily) hand or eyes over your work is a great satisfaction that is impeded here.
i can see situations in which this or a similar approach may be the most appropriate, but any stiff alignable approach internal or external or outside box will work for most yaks. the main issue is if you can index to a sectioned alignment.
the only way i can see the outside approach being true is if one wedges from the inside floating forms-and it looks like a royal bitch especially in tight stripping near the finish and ends. if you wedge from the outside, the inside forms need to be on a strongback or you need to wedge the exact same on every strip on every form on every side- much, much, much too difficult. the clamping really has to be against whatever form is true and truly aligned. like if it was woodhacker me, every form would wiggle back and forth 1/8in some on one side, some on the other. major fairing w/ long boards.
however, it is obviously possible to get results, and your kayak looks great. the clamping pressure must be superb and a great bonus is continuously stripping the whole kayak and not necessarily being constrained by any one sheer location. using the outside forms looks like perfect way to deal w/ inside seaming on hulls and decks that want to spread.
