: Hi, still trying to figure out wether or not to use 1/4 " lauan
: (acutally 5.2mm). Does anyone have experience with this and what was the
: weight of the finnished boat for CH16 or CH17.
: Also - how much epoxy for a CH16?

I never used 1/4" lauan, but it should work fine. The only difficult step will be bending the radius of the deck - just get an assistant or two.

As for weight, don't worry about it. Remember, most of the weight comes from the epoxy. The lauan is 30% thicker than 4 mm, so your adding 30% of the wood weight - probably only 3 or 4 pounds more than CLC's estimated weight.

As for epoxy, I used 1.5 gallons epoxy and 3 quarts hardener on a Patuxent 17.5. It was my first boat, so I made the fillets (much) heavier than they needed to be. And the CH16 is shorter, so you should be able to get by with 1 gal epoxy and 2 qts hardener if you are careful. Or just get a little more to be safe, and use the excess for building a paddle.

Start with two sheets of lauan. If it works go on
