: The doubles cockpit is HUGE, so if your scaling it down, use the offsets from
: the single. I would also suggest doing a cockpit recess. In Nick's book,
: he said it really wasn't necessary, but the deck is pretty high on the
: double and dropping it down it bit would be nice.
: Also think about what other kayaks you may build or paddle and if they spray
: skirt is likely to fit.
: After buying two spray skirts for the volumous cockpit of the double, I am
: unable to use them on my single....way too big.
: Maybe use the offsets for the double cockpit as a recess cutout, then strip
: and put a smaller cockpit opening in.

Tom,
Thanks for the info. I have two follow-up questions:
1. Since I am scaling down by 15%, do you still think that the deck will be too high? How much will the recess reduce the hieght? As I am only 5'6", and I will be taking my kids out, I am concerned about the deck being too high.
2. When I scaled down the double cockpit by 15%, it became shorter and about the same width as the single (28"x17" roughly). Will the standard size skirt fit this?
Thanks again,
Joe
