We cut our cockpit opening at 18" x 32". I choose those measurements because the majority of the commercial double kayak cockpits I looked at were in that neighborhood. We are not going to make a recess on the foreward cockpit. I have owned a Necky Amaruk and Wilderness Systems Sealution II. I used the same "standard" size skirt for both boats. That seems to be the most common size for the cockpit. By the way, I just measured the distance between the deck and the hull at the front of the forward cockpit. It was 14.5 inches. The height at the back of the forward cockpit was 13 inches. The rearward or stern cockpit was 12 inches front and back.
