Strip: Rub Rail

I am finishing the deck of my Night Herron and am concerned about the deck to hull joint. I worry that the fit will not look as good as the rest of the boat, and am considering adding a rub rail to cover my "sins", as well as protect the side. It would be a piece approximately 1/2" rounded, either in matching color or accent.

I have a poly sea kayak that has a flange at the sheer and this actually helps deflect water. Also I saw a S&G that had this rub rail for the same reason.

Has anyone else done this, and would like to see pictures? Am also interested in other thoughts.
