IF you can you may want to have a look at a folding kayak at a Klepper, Nautiraid, Feathercraft, Folbot, etc. shop where they could be seen.
On a Klepper the bungee cords run through black nylon strap loops.
These loops are sewn in between the deck canvas and the hypalon hull.
THe life line runs thru D rings that are not rooted in the sheer stitch but are on a recessed position a bit nearer the deck line.
They are caught in little black straps that are sewn on the cotton deck.
Another loop, I think, is sewn underneath the deck to the first, upper strap, in a symmetrical fashion (making an 8 figure, sort of). That loop is I guess tied around a stringer, or a metal hook or anything that's connected to the structure.
The point indeed is to get to the woodwork without springing leaks.
