Consider making a "butcher block" style top for the table, with a design inlaid.
Rip strips of various colored woods to the desired thickness of your table top, and make them anywhere from 1/4 inch to 1 inch wide. Butter the sides of the strips with epoxy and squeeze the assembly between clamps (gentle pressure) until the resin sets. any excess that oozes out of the joints can be spread across the surface with a squeegee to seal the wood.

I don't think you want tablelegs that look like paddles :)
