I call this place with all of the different kinds of woods the Wood Gold Mine because it is in the country not far from me and has almost every kind of wood imaginable. The picture only represents about 1/6 of the wood in this room. American wood in short pieces sell for 50 cents a pound. That's what I bought yesterday in American black walnut for the whopping total of $2.84 and cut enough strips for my decorations. But I was looking for the blackist wood I could find, trying Russ's spit test. That turned out to be Peruvian Walnut, from (Peru)I think, but cost $5.50 a board foot so I passed but I am thinking about going back and getting some. What I saw was about as black as you can get. Much darker then the black walnut sample I brought with me for compairson. So anyone wanting a very dark wood might check out Peruvian Walnut.
