: I think all varnishes have a yellow tint in them. I'd like to know if there
: is one that doesnt.

: Amother question - I tried a quart of McCkosky's spar varnish, because it's
: cheaper and I knew I'd use it anyway. It's solids settle out, and it has
: to be stirred up pretty good before use. I dont recall this with other
: brands - is this a 'get what you pay for' deal, or am i missing something?

: I use up my old varnish by filtering it through a cheezecloth or paint
: filter, and mixing it with turpentine and linseed oil for paddle finish.
: On a boat, use a new quart, it's easier.

: For storage, either pick up some Bloxygen, or simply shoot a little propane
: into the can before you close it. I've also had good success with small
: glass jars - if you happen to have a quantity to fill one, say half-quart,
: it stores best in smaller sealed quantities. Canning jars work best, they
: seal. Bloxygen is a great product, and there is also a home brew for it
: but I dont remember what it is.

Hi, Don

The flip side of ending up with the yellow tint is that the art work looks great...like cracked river ice. Speaking of paddles....I am trying to decide what paddle will be the best one to use for my river trip (approx. 3000 kms with a little white stuff along the way). Most of the trip is slow downstream, especially across the canadian prairies. I currently use a Grey Owl paddle with a blade width of 16 inches. When I use this paddle I feel like I am paddling my ass off but not going at quite the speed I want. It's weight is good (not sure what it is but not heavy at all). I really enjoy cutting through the water and stirring up a nice wake. What blade width would be ideal for someone a bit stronger to use over the length of a days paddle? What is the best brand to use?

Thanks for the tips!

Rob
