In Response To: Seeking: has anyone built a rowing dory??? (Shawn Servoss)
Shawn,
I built a Gloucester Light Dory several years ago and it has worked out well. I built mine out of 1/4 marine plywood and it came in at about 90 lbs. It is a fairly easy boat to build, rows well with one person but can carry a couple more, and can handle exposed open water as most dories can. I have taken it out in Lake Superior several times.
It was designed by Phil Bolger and if I remember right he said something like; "When I get to the Pearly Gates and St Peter askes me what I did that is worthwhile, I can tell him I designed the Gloucester Light Dory.
