The Night Heron plans do come with a "low deck" option, although I have never seen one built that way. I paddled the Night Heron at the Newfound Rendezvous last year, and the deck height was my only complaint. In my opinion, the "low deck" version should be standard, with an optional "high deck" version for those who like long camping trips with lots of gear. But Nick is about six inches taller than me, and it is his design. If the boat had the low deck, it probably would have been my favorite boat on the beach.
