At most hardware stores you can get galvanized 1/16th wire. Stainless is much better. I get mine from a airplane parts dealer on our local airfield. They use it extensively through planes for controls. It is cheaper there than at the local West Marine store.
You can get copper or aluminum crimps at the hardware stores too. A pair of visegrips and you are in business.
I try to crimp small loops in the ends and use small stainless bolts and washers where I can so I don't have to cut cable to remove it or make adjustments.

Hard tubing is at the local Lowe's. Home Depot,Ace hardware stores.
