I assume we're talking about a stern keel line wear strip. Seaward Kayaks have a nice idea. A short length of UHMW plastic strip screwed into a recess in the keel area on their fibreglass boats. Since it's screwed in, you can easily replace it as it wears. The screw heads are counter sunk a bit so they don't wear off too soon. On a wood boat a sacrificial strip of hard wood, eg oak might look nicer. Apply it after the boat is all glassed, shaped so it fills in a recess (so you'd have to plan ahead a bit on the design and construction). This would work best on boats without a long rounded upturn at the stern.
