Thanks for the info. about the white wood...in the North East, the pine is a little yellowish...probably different elsewhere. I'm looking across the room at my hatch covers, hanging on the wall like some sort of wooden shields (about 1&1/2 years old)...I made "stripped" covers and coaming on an S&G boat...used basswood, maple, mahogany, yellow cedar and redwood; and Captain's varnish...from 20 feet, I have three colors - yellowish amber, brown and dark brown.,,the basswood is a tad lighter, but not much!
