: I've found poplar to have a slight green hue. This is in Oregon and can vary.
This deck is 100% poplar. The boards had green shades to them, but those areas turned brown to grey over the season before I ripped them. Some of the boards were very light in color. The weight is moderate. No worse than the pines I've used, but certainly not as light as cedar. The wood works like a dream. Easily planed, sanded, cut, etc. As you can see, it bends pretty well. I did all this with no steam, heat or staples. Never had a split or run-out problem. It is very easy to find knot free boards too (a very attractive trait in my book). Has kind of a musty smell when it's cut. I'll be using more of this in the future.
BTW: This Sea Spirit currently has no cockpit. Might leave it that way to see how well Shawn can "Rodeo" paddle it :-)
