Hi

I love these "any advice" requests, rather than "good advice" requests. Otherwise I'd have to keep silent.

I would cut a larger hole than the compass, and 'back fill' it with either strips or plywood panels, to make a level recess, then mount the compass there.

Or, I'd make a bracket that fit on top of the deck, but not attached, then have that bungeed to the deck, the compas could mount on the backet.
