I built a compass mount for my Great Auk which has a peaked deck as well. I started by tracing out the angle of the foredeck onto a bit of scrap cedar 2x4. After cutting the V notch into the wood on my bandsaw I checked for fit and then rounded the V and the top where the compass would sit. I bought one of those $10 auto compasses at Walmart, removed it from its base and cemented it to the wooden mount. I varnished it and attached it to my deck.
I can e-mail a picture to you if you would like to see what it looks like.
: I would like to mount a compass on my Arctic Tern, and because of the peaked
: foredeck, can see no easy solutions for a neat installations. Any advice
: for a compass and/or installation technique?
