Mick, reading your stuff is like turning a light switch on. I saw a front hatch on an chesapeake that was absolutely flush but with the underside entirely formed with a 1/4" piece of Nydacore. I've done it with glass tape and about 1/8" springback after waiting a day. Just guessing that carbon would prevent the little 3/4" cantilevered edge from pulling up.
