Has anyone ever used wider strips? I ran out of my stock that was given to me by a friend who replaced all the Facia on their home, as a result they gave me 10 pcs of 1 x 10 x 16 Clear tight grain cedar.(wish I had more friends that wanted to do this) So I ran down to the local lumber Co. and picked out some new wood. When I got it home I realized that it was finished one side only. It was when we started ripping it that I discovered it was 7/8” thick rough one side. I put the bead on the rough side it cleaned up most of the rough saw grain. When I started to use them to strip the deck I figured that I’m saving one glue joint every 3 courses or so, the strips ended up approx. 11/16 wide. Stripping tends to go a little faster.

On the bottom of my wife’s guillimot I put four pieces of Purple Heart that was about 3 courses wide by about 8 inches long they form a arrow head tip, the keel line is two courses wide of cedar. Then next to that is two strips of Birds Eye Maple with one-inch space between them. We filled this space with Cedar Parallelograms to represent Flights of an Arrow. (I’ll get the photos this weekend and link a page of them from my user profile)

Ok here is the Question on that. I plan on laying-up it’s either 11 or 15 oz x 4” biaxial tape on the inside of the keel! Now I know that more is usually better but would it be better if I just used this in the cockpit area as opposed to going the full length of the boat? Or is it necessary at all?

One more question. On my Great Auk I’m making Snowflake inlays using Purple Heart, Ash, Birds Eye Maple, Walnut, and Cedar. Is this a problem with things like using woods with different densities? (I.e. expansion and contraction causing cracks)

Or again is my A.D.H.D moving into overdrive?
