I'm supprised you have not received alot of response to this question.

That's what I did. I've just recently been planeing down my work, and one thing I found was some gaps between the strips opened up. Some of my strips were slightly too long, enough that it would push out the corner where the filler strip was meeting the curved border strip. And this was covered by the lip of the cove, so it opened up when the edge of the cove was removed by the plane. This only happend on one or two spots, just fair warning for something to watch out for.

For an alternative mehtod, check out the shop notes on the "one ocean kayak" site What Valaclav (sp?) does is to strip first, then cut the pattern out, and place in the curvy boarder strips. I may try that next time.

I think you are saying do you want to plane off the bead/cove on the last two strips, prior to fitting the final strip to close of a section. The answer is yes, anytime you close an area, this really helps. A sight bevel when you plane off will help to wedge the last piece down so you can use tape to hold it down tight, without pushing through.
