hi Matthew;
i have both a gps and clip-on compass. the gps is not a compass, and will only show direction when moving. the compass will not tell you were you are by itself. if i am just going out for the afternoon i may not mount the compass, but i always have the gps with me.
purist-schmurist, i want to know were my truck is! :D double redundancy is my rule when i'm out in the "wild"
the "garmin etrex" is affordable at $190 (canadian) at wallmart or london drugs. works for me. :)
