My GPS got me out of problems when I had used the compass and maps to my destinations but thought I knew my way back to camp and didn’t need to use the compass/maps. I was lost several times and went to the trusty GPS which I thought was lying to me but never was. Also, I laid my map and compass on a large rock to get my orientations and later found out the rock was magnetic and screwing up my readings.
I like to have the GPS and map/compass with me.
