: I don't know if this will help you but this is the way I will do this. In the
: picture you will see the inlay border at the top and bottom with a
: 5/16" walnut strip next to a 1/16" pine strip. I will glue
: 3/4" wide pine and walnut strips together then run this 1 1/2"
: wide strip through the table saw to get the walnut and pine widths. It
: will be much easier to glue the wide strips together then if I tried to
: glue the small width strips to them selves I think.
John - Good idea gluing before cutting. For me, the ease of ripping would be the biggest benefit, though, especially after that thread a few days ago about fingers lost to saw blades.
I had no problems gluing thin strips. I glued two 1/4" pine strips on either side of a 3/8" cedar strip. For clamps I used those steel spring clips sold in business supply stores. The big ones open up to 1", produce plenty of pressure, and are cheap (12 for $4 Cdn). Spaced every 6" or so, they make fast work out of the thin strip gluing.
