Hi Mike, I've never gone that thin. I have some scrap pieces that are about that thickness and they could be glued-in no problem. Sandwich a long strip between it and the clamp so it doesn't go wavy on you. Put plastic tape on the clamping strip.
I've experimented with ripping after it's been glued (mentioned earlier) with mixed results - you don't always get a perfect thickness... or rather, I don't always get a perfect thickness... that way
A strip that thin might be hard to see on your boat; it may just blend in from 3' away. You could just rip to 1/16" or even 1/8". It's pretty easy. Clamp a sacrificial fence over your metal fence when you start to get that close.
