: Hi Folks.
: I needed to move my in-progress kayak about 50 miles from my folks' house to
: my new house. The problem was that my vehicle (Subaru Forester) at present
: has no kayak rack. I do have a standard luggage rack, so I hacked together
: a one-time-special kayak rack out of pipe insulation, duct tape, and
: ratchet tie-downs -- for less than 15 bucks. If you've already got the
: tie-downs, then it only involves the cost of the insulation -- mine was
: under 3 bucks for a six-foot section. I thought I'd share since others may
: find themselves in similar situations. The move was a stellar success with
: the 'yak budging 'nary an inch along the way.

Rick I alway like cheap. Later on it looks like you could easily fasten Yakima or Thule saddles to your luggage rack. If you do, check e-bay for saddles. I got brand new Yakima saddles for a third less in cost.
