With Dysons aluminum frames he says to coat the lashings with epoxy this makes them rigid so they do not flex. Uncoated lashings usually allow slight flex depending on lashing materials and how tightly they are done. Uncoated lashing can suffer from abrasion.

An alternative is sikaflex marine adhesive it allows quite a bit of flex and holds up quite well.
