Cheek plate placement was one thing I found out about the hard way. On my first two boats I mounted them way to far forward which makes it hard to do many different rolling techniques. I ended cutting them out and moving them way back. I now mount mine so the back of the plate is parallel with the back of the seat and extend forward about 6".
